Though I’ve been taking pictures since my uncle offered me his old Contax T2 camera when I was a teenager, it was not until I took a photography class with photographer Susan Paufler that I started to explore the vast universe of photography. Since then I have never stopped: I have been taking classes on old techniques and different schools of photography, the grammar of colors, project classes as well as seminars on the philosophy of photography at the Photocentrum Kreuzberg, the imago fotokunst and the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin.

The city inspires me. I love the buzz of Berlin and how it brings together people from all over the world. Each city has its own language and grammar and with the project “The World in Berlin”, I love to explore different angles of Berlin. The city is full of stories and inspiration and in constant change. With my camera, I love to capture these fleeting moments, preserve them in time and share them with you.

“The city is a discourse and this discourse is truly a language: the city speaks to its inhabitants; we speak our city, the city where we are, simply by living in it, by wandering through it, by looking at it, is truly and mostly clear if we take into investigation all that surrounds us in the context of visual culture of the urban.” Roland Barthes, Semiology and Urbanism

I was born in Latvia and studied theater, musical and camera acting in Riga.
I have played at various theaters, in artistic short films and advertising projects. In 2017, while working on a short film for a friend, I discovered my love for photography and visual arts. After that I studied photography for a year at imago fotokunst.

Photography for me means to make the special of every person visible.

My heart project is the project „Afternoon", for which I accompany teenagers in their free time. Some of these photos were presented in the group exhibition "Foucus - Augenmerk“ at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin in 2019.

Working for the wonderful project "The World in Berlin“ makes me glad and I am happy that you participate.
Face the human Face.

I was born in Scotland but spent most of my life in Germany. I came to Berlin in 1980 and got hooked on the city with all its possibilities. The people who live here today – for a short while or forever - are a reflexion of the change the city has gone through for the last 40 years. I find it fascinating to watch how a place which was closed in by a wall and not very open to the outside world for many years has developed a new face with these people from all over the world who decided to find a new home here. In this project I’m looking for and into these faces with my camera.

I started photography seriously 8 years ago. After a few workshops at Canon Academy I took part in a one year class at imago fotokunst and the exhibition “Augenmerk”. Currently I work on a project “Time in between – women between 55 und 65“ as part of the class “Konzeptionelle Portraitfotografie” with Thomas Kierok at imago fotokunst. I have also made photos for press portfolios of different theatre projects.

Apart from shooting portraits I’m a passionate nature and wildlife photographer. And I love to experiment with my camera in search of new perceptions.

You also find my photos on Flickr and Instagram.

I am an amateur photographer for a long time, with long pauses due to family and work. My preferred subject of photography are portraits, but occasionally I take pictures of other stuff too. Mostly I am taking photos digitally. But since professional film medium format cameras have become affordable on ebay, I shoot also film, preferably in black and white.

My most recent projects were “The story of a life”, about how life expresses itself in the faces of older Indian Gentlemen. The other project which is going on in its third year is my “Writers” project, where I portrait writers mostly in Berlin. Professionally I am an engineer and project manager and travel a lot. It is my objective to use photography as an artistic expression to depict realities or to even create them. In my pictures I like to use contrasts in color and a clear visual language. As part of my photography journey I have taken classes at Photocentrum Kreuzberg, VHS Berlin Mitte and imago fotokunst.

Salut! I'm Sibylle and I'm so happy that you are interested in this project! Despite I'm still at the beginning, our portrait project "The World in Berlin" has so much potential and I'm sure that it will push me in a lot of ways!

From March 2016 to February 2017, I participated in the photo school imago fotokunst, in the 42nd course, under the direction of Victoria Bonn-Meuser. During this time I also met Thomas Kierok. I have been regularly attending portrait workshops in Berlin as well as photo exhibitions.

Photography is definitely one of my greatest passions and I'm always willing to take out my camera whenever I have free time. Therefore, I'm looking forward to work and met new people as well as to discovering Berlin a bit more. I live in Potsdam, which is also beautiful.

I shoot intuitively and have since 2007 a photo collection at "Flickr".

My photography journey started in 2001, when I was in a sense forced to shoot photos of ostriches in South Africa for a marketing booklet for our own business, as I could not find suitable photos then. I was motivated to learn more about photography and thus started my first elementary courses in Turkey and continued by attending various courses and workshops in different fields of photography, until I recognized my passion for portraits.

After we moved to Berlin in 2014, I attended a portfolio course at Lette Verein, two project courses for one year each at VHS Mitte und Photocentrum am Wassertor. In 2018 I started studying again, this time in the field of Social Work, which aroused my interest for social photography. I’m trying to thematise social issues like racism, discrimination, gender issues, powerty, etc. in my photos.

Among my projects are „Iron Maiden“, which was about the physical and emotional struggle of a young girl, who had to wear a hard plastic corset for 23 hours a day because of her scoliosis. It was exhibited in Bethanien, Kreuzberg Berlin. My most recent project was “I am here!”, it was exhibited at the Alice-Salomon-Hochschule, Berlin and Kabinett.25 in Kreuzberg, Berlin. It aims to point to the racism experience of Black and PoC students of Alice-Salomon-Hochschule, including myself.
